Promoting equitable access to land, housing, and infrastructure — supporting official land reform initiatives that empower marginalised communities.
Land is power. Access to land — for farming, for housing, for community use — is foundational to economic security, dignity, and environmental stewardship. Yet across India, land inequality remains a profound challenge, with marginalised communities often excluded from the formal systems that determine who owns and uses land.
Bionectus supports land reform as an essential component of sustainable development. We work with landless communities, smallholder farmers, and women's groups to navigate land rights processes, access government schemes, and secure the land they depend on.
Our approach recognises that without land security, long-term conservation and sustainable livelihoods are impossible — communities cannot invest in land they might lose.
We take a rights-based approach to land reform — working within the legal framework to help communities understand and exercise their entitlements. We provide legal literacy, connect communities with government schemes, and advocate for fair implementation of land reform policies.
We give special attention to women's land rights, recognising that women's secure access to land is a multiplier for household welfare, agricultural productivity, and community resilience.
Teaching communities about their legal land rights, entitlements, and processes under Indian land law.
Advocating for and supporting women's access to land titles and decision-making over land resources.
Helping communities access government housing schemes and secure residential land rights.
Connecting communities with relevant government programmes and facilitating official land reform processes.
Providing legal guidance and referral for communities facing land disputes or unlawful dispossession.
Supporting communities in accessing roads, water, sanitation, and other infrastructure tied to land rights.
"Land reform is not charity — it is justice. When people have secure access to land, they invest in it, protect it, and pass it on to their children. That is how sustainable development truly begins."
